Travel Tips
Vacationing in the British Virgin Islands couldn't be easier - the currency is the US dollar and a passport is all that is needed for entry.
Virgin Gorda itself is a relatively small island - only 8 miles long and 3 miles wide - but the variety of beaches and terrain from one end of the island to the other is amazing and the views are breathtaking. You'll want to rent a car (arrangements can be made through Virgin Gorda Villa Rentals) to explore, dine and shop.
Pack light! (I know you've heard this sage bit of advice before - but it really does apply here!) For most of the year the temperatures fluctuate between 76 and 86 degrees F - i.e., a light sweater is the most you'll require for warmth - leave the heavier stuff at home. Dress is "smart casual" - only two resorts require long pants for gentlemen at dinner - Biras Creek and Little Dix.
Where to Buy What
- Groceries/Sundries: Our favorite grocery is "Buck's" at Yacht Harbor Marina in Spanish Town. There's also "Rosies" in the Valley.
- Liquor/Bulk Items: "RTW's Warehouse" (on the road to The Baths) has the best prices on liquor, beer and wine - but you buy in bulk which usually means in sets of three - not a problem for most vacationers! Their meats are generally very good, but again you buy in quantity.
- Gifts: There are a number of gift shops featuring Caribbean crafts both in Yacht Harbor Marina and at the Top of the Baths.
- Restaurants: There are a variety of fine restaurants on the island, one of which is within walking distance of the villa. Check out our Guest Handbook in the villa for specific recommendations. Reservations are advisable, especially during high season.
